Quick Spring Updates for your Home…

Ok kids, believe it or not Spring is coming!  Of course Ottawa is a little behind as we still have a few feet of snow that needs to melt…asap!  But I don’t want to wait any longer to start switching things up at home and adding a few updates.  So below is my go to list when I’m itching to make a few small and affordable changes around my house.

#1 – New toss cushions

Toss cushions are a great way to breath some life into your living space or bedroom.  I keep my interiors mostly neutral, which means it is easy to add a pop of colour or texture with a few cushions.  I have many seasonal pillows that I switch up every few months.  Ottawa winters are soooo long, so when Spring comes I like to treat myself to something new and fresh.  Below is a gorgeous pillow combo, and keep checking in because I’m working on something exciting coming to the site soon!

#2 – Paint, Paint, Paint

Painting a room is a relatively easy, inexpensive, and oh so satisfying way to give a space a breath of fresh air.  Small spaces, like a Powder Room, are great opportunities to try a different colour, or take a chance on a bold wallcovering.  A favourite trick of mine, paint or wallpaper the inside of your coat closet in a beautiful colour or wallcovering.  Add some baskets and nice coat hangers (no wire hangers here!) and it is a lovely little surprise for your guests.

#3 – Accessorize baby!

I love accessories, especially hand made pottery.  I could fill every shelf in my house with different ceramic vessels, all shapes and sizes.  Switching up your accessories is another quick project that can really change a room, table top, or your Kitchen counter.  I love Home Sense for inexpensive finds, and of course Spring is flea market season!  So keep your eyes peeled for local events.

#4 – Switch out your rugs

As I may have said earlier, winter is a loooong one (can you sense I’m still not used to Ottawa winters?).  And many of us have those trusted, but unattractive, black mats at our to trap all the snow and salt that comes in our door.  So time to roll it up and switch it for a lovely new rug that can handle a little dirt, but adds a little something special to your space.  I also love to buy a fresh outdoor mat for outside our front door. Below are a few options that I love.

#5 – Bring the outdoors inside

If you don’t do this already,  add a few fresh greens to your home to bring the outdoors inside.  I don’t claim to have a green thumb, but I like to check out the local nursery and ask for advice on what I should put in my home that I hopefully won’t…kill.

#6 – Treat yo self!

Time to treat yourself to whatever feeds your soul.  A fresh scented essential oil for the diffuser, a new book, a beautiful candle, or some fresh flowers.  Whatever puts a little “spring” in your step, and prevents you from raging on your family that didn’t clean up the Legos like you asked.  Oh, sorry.  That may just be me…
